The Lanterne Rooms

Do you know what Canberra does well? It does awesome restaurants in suburban venues. Lanterne Rooms is located in downtown Campbell shops. It overlooks the carpark, but that doesn't matter because you would never even think to look outside. The fit out - like other Chairman Yip restaurants is simple and clever. Lots of fabric, simple and striking detail, and classic furnishing.

Now to the food. Amazing. I went for lunch and we had the banquet and it was divine. Duck rolls were okay...but then I'm not one to love duck. I have a rule about eating former (or current) pets. RIP Sid.

The mains were outstanding. Chicken with lemongrass, Shanghai noodles with caramalised pork, and a wonderfully tender slow cooked beef. For dessert I had the Indian Kulfi (how could I not). It was interesting, and fragrant with spices. If you haven't been to Lanterne Rooms, and you don't have a cheeky trip to Malaysia plans, you should go straight away!

  1. Maybe we could venture to Campbell shops instead of Woden shops next time we are in town. If we order loads of starters we might convince the kids it is yum cha?

  2. They would know. There aren't enough starters, nor carts, nor steamed broccoli and no custard tarts. I say we get a babysitter and go on a Saturday night! Still go yum cha on the Sunday, couldn't let the kids down...

  3. Is that why you don't eat dog?

  4. Exactly. And why I also shy away from rabbit.

  5. "Duck rolls were okay" - that means you actually ate some?

    I'm shocked.

  6. It would have been rude! I eat duck if it is served/bought for me. Except for when Justine purposely buys it and cooks it for me even though she knows of my aversion... I just never pick it myself.
