Disproportionately happy

For bits of crepe paper on string, the effect is amazing and it makes me smile every time I pass it through the house.

Seasons stuff...

I'm kind of having a love hate relationship with this time of year lately. And by lately I mean the last few years....yet this year I think I have succumbed to the beauty of the festive season. I'm going to embrace the tradition, and know that this year will feel the same as every other. And that's ok. I'm going to share a bed with a 30kg border collie X, surrounded by stuffed toys staring at us with judging eyes. That bit not so ok.

I hope you are having a great time, this time of year - wherever you are and whatever you are doing. Much love from this little yellow house.

Sydney always smells good

Every single time, when we get out of the tunnel from the bridge. The windows down and it smells of our first home.

Mocan and Green Grout

It's true. This is the hippest place in Canberra. Lucky the food is amazing enough to distract you from the tiny chairs, uber hipsters and cramped environs. That said, the tiny chairs, uber hipsters and cramped environs actually adds to the charm.

Also, did you know (now we are in post-hipster phase) that it is hip NOT to take photos of your fresh line caught snapper, trout with liquorice, perfect oyster, spatchcock, potato with fried capers, etc etc....?

Heavenly sky

Nothing like a long lunch

The last time I ate here, it was a completely different season a cool autumn day - and an occasion too! The wedding of two wonderful friends who were married on that pretty lawn under the fading light of day.

This time the occasion was a relaxing long lunch with friends in a private room of the house. Which, lets face it - was really the best placement of our group, who on occasion have been know for being quite loud. An amazing entree of zucchini flower stuffed with risotto, with fresh baby calamari and squid ink. Then a pie of broad bean and veal, on a bed of mash with kale and the bite of vinegar anchovies. It all ended with an apple bavarois.

The sunny sky and perfect heat, a stroll in the garden full of artichokes and spring onion flowers. Then a drive back into town via unsealed roads and rolling hills of of beached yellow grass. Makes you wonder why you don't just do this sort of thing every weekend.
