The Flaming Lips

Our road-trip to the big smoke to see the Flaming Lips was the best 24 hours I've had in a long time. Just so much fun stuff happened in such a short space of time, and I can't really say much more because what happens in Sydney stays in Sydney and all that...

But I can talk about the concert. They opened up with Fight Test and closed with Do you Realize. I don't really need to say anything else, except that beyond the beautiful music the Hordern was the most colourful mess of balloons and paper floating from the sky. You could see the red and blue balls bounce in slow motion amongst the crowd. The big white balloons were the best because they would 'POP' and the orange paper would shower down - twisting and turning in the air.

I recorded a little bit of the show and ran the music on top of some photos I took- just for you. I hope you like it.

And thank you Taffy and Charlie Virtue. I'm going to miss this by the time August ends ♥ Special K

The Raging Face

Taniela Tuiaki is the best rugby league footballer ever known to man...well that's what those in the know tell me anyway.

They call him The Raging Face. I'd heard about this a few weeks ago, but wasn't sure if it was true until I bumped into a couple of Tiger fans at Woden.

Raging Face has now been confirmed. You heard it here first.

Drag me to hell

On Sunday night I went to the movies with Taffy and the lamb whisperer.

We went to see "Drag me to hell". They told me it was art house. It wasn't.

What it was though, was one of the funniest movies I've seen in a very long time. I nearly pig snorted. Whoever wrote that script is pure genius. Mr Jacks the bank manager gets sprayed with blood from head to toe and all you can hear him say (several times) "Did I get any in my mouth?"

And the very best part? The goat.

Little lamb

Gina had a little lamb, whose mother couldn't stand
So Gina had to be at home to feed the lamb by hand

Awkward

Last night I met some friends for a belated birthday dinner at Courgette.

We were greeted at the door by one of their friendly staff, and my hello quickly morphed into a 'uh oh' inside my head. Not straight away though...you know how you are mid smile and then your brain kicks in, and all of a sudden you recognise a face, well that's kind of what happened.

So we sat down and a lovely lady helped us with the menu, but the person I recognised kept on hovering around the edges and I could see he was trying to place where he knew me. He was bobbing in and out to check on us, just enough so that every time I started to relax, whoops - there you are again...thanks for the reminder!

Anyways I ordered a lovely steak, or should I say (off the top of my head) a 90 day fillet of beef with potato bobbin, pea puree, roasted baby beetroots and bordelaise sauce. The meal was lovely as was the service. You've got to love complimentary canapes. Oh a cute little mouthful of mango sorbet to cleanse my palate - don't mind if I do!

So yeah - back to my story. Great dinner, great company, blah blah blah blah blah - and the guy comes back as I am about to pay the bill.

'So am I right to say I've seen all your faces before?' He is so friendly and charming, you can't help to like him.

Out loud I said 'yes, yep - you are right. have seen me before.'

While that was happening I had the following conversation in my head:

'You might remember me from one of my previous outings. It was to
a restaurant you worked at before. A restaurant that previously was a sister restaurant to this one. Eggplant or something - can't quite remember. Look I'm a bit blurred on the exact day I was at that establishment....somewhere in 2004? Hang on, ummm...yes it was my wedding day. How did that all work out for me you ask? Yeah apparently not so good. Thanks for asking.'

So Canberra.

PS isn't awkward a funny looking word when you write it out?

Needle in a haystack

I read about this program called Haystack. It is a new program currently being developed to provide unfiltered internet access to the people of Iran, and specifically targets the Iranian government’s web filtering mechanisms.

According to their website, once installed Haystack will provide completely uncensored access to the internet in Iran while protecting the user’s identity.

All of this amazing work is done through people volunteering their time, skills and energy to make it happen. You can read about it on the creators blog. Spread the word about these geeks doing good as they help to provide safe, unfiltered internet access to the people of Iran.
