Lamb Brik - Silo

I don't care what you say about the service, and don't even start me on the egg thing. I love Silo.

I love how the owners have gently moved around the world over the years. When I arrived to Canberra there was a French influence, then they touched on Italy before moving to Spain. One winter there was a strong German vibe happening.

At the moment there seems to be a bit of a Tunisian brought to the table. Slow cooked lamb, in a pastry, with some dukkah, hommus and pomegranate. And story about the Tunisian tradition, where the bride-to-be's mother makes a brik for the potential bridegroom. If the bridegroom eats it without spilling any of the egg yolk he may marry the bride. There was no egg in this one, and come to think of it... no potential bride, groom or mother - so we were safe to enjoy in the winter sun.

Grandmas Little Bakery

I've driven by this place a gazzillion times, and in the last month have managed to stop in twice. First time for lunch, where it was mid week and I was surrounded by lovely ladies 70 and above enjoying lunch. You order using ipads, so I helped the ladies out - one of which made the point to say that while she didn't have an ipad - she did own a kindle.

I have neither.

So the food is pretty homestyle, the baked goods great and excellent coffee. Great little stop over on the way to Sydney town.

Friday night in

A friday night hanging with your dog best friend, sharing pizza (but not the champagne) isn't all that bad.

Clown Behind Bars

I wanted to share with you my most recent art purchase 'Clown Behind Bars'. This painting gives me unexpected joy, pretty much everyday - particularly when I get home from work and sigh and wonder about the ten hours just gone. And then I glance at the clown and I smile.

I love the detail and the perspective with the little policeman in the distance. It was made by a very talented nine year old, and represents things that are kind of topsy turvy and not quite as they should be. Kind of like life sometimes you know? But funnier, because it is a clown behind bars. And a bit unsettling, because it is a clown behind bars.

Reuben Hills

Please go to Reuben Hills , it is amazing. The sandwich is the best I've ever eaten - wagu steak, pickles and slaw.

Icecream sandwich with salted caramel. Sigh.

Coffee made with farm fresh, un-pasteurised milk. Staff who look too cool for school but are professional, courteous and friendly. Heaven!
