I love New Zealand films. They are beautiful and sensitive and don't take themselves too seriously. They also don't have that cultural cringe of some Australian films. That was a massive generalisation - sorry.
Back to the film, it is such a wonderful story, and it engages you in such a way that you are taken aback when things become emotional. Please go see it.
I haven't seen that many NZ films. But with the ones I've seen (or know about) there's only one that doesn't take itself too seriously (actually, two come to think of it; my argument is falling apart already). But some NZ films are a massive pile of bleak. Then again, so was Samson and Delilah.
ReplyDeleteThis film is happy bleak.
