Romance, so it seems, is not dead. Well not for the moment anyways.

Akiba
So, there is a new kid in Canberra town. And while I love the editions of Monster and 86 to the Canberra fold, finally we have a serious Japanese leaning eatery in our midst. Akiba doesn't do micro herbs or foams - it just does bloody good, robust street food.
Akiba, I was told, was Asian fusion - the description included elements of Mediterranean, 'smokey' and all sorts of wrong. My take? Great flavours, a good menu for sharing, and a flipping great fit out. A bit of Osaka, a bit of Seoul, a teeny bit of Ho Chi Minh all rolled into a restaurant that would be well placed in any city. But it's in Canberra. And it's open every day of the week until late. Thank god: www.akiba.com.au

Friends are just the best
Today was filled with some of my favourite people, both near and far. I could have squeezed the life out of the visitors from the middle east, we totally should have all been friends forever ago and now I want to make up for lost time.
Then a blissful evening with two friends, where everything is always easy and right.
People. Remember, out of everything, friends are just the best.

Canberra, you are a bit alright
Even the terrible folk singing couldn't ruin this Friday. Great company and a good local rose. Change of venue and food from the bus sitting on ice-cream crates, listening to bad eighties music while drinking cider. All under a beautiful sunset.
If you don't think this sounds good, I just don't understand.

Thursday morning sounds
This song was gifted to me, and it's beautiful, so I'll put it here for you. Steve's Boy by the Lemonheads.

86 times a million
So, 86 could probably have its own label on this blog. And yes, you can all remind me about how much I was a hater the first time around. But honestly, once you understand how it works, and it just is - what is there not to love.
Last week Christine Mansfield was in the house making desserts. Don't tell anyone, but I like 86 desserts better.
