Pop Fizz

I never thought I would say this. It is possible to have too much champagne and for the first time in my life I didn't finish a glass of the good stuff. 10 bottles with lots of bead, talk of mousse and hints of egg custard and citrus. Really though, just a bunch of good bubbles, great food and fun company.

Illumination: The art of Philip Wolfhagen

A lovely spontaneous lunch under a bright autumn sky led to some time moseying around an exhibition at the Drill Hall Gallery. It's funny how someone else's work can remind you of bits of your own - and this has happened a lot of late. I think it means it's time to start painting again, and not little quick pieces of colour and lines - but proper canvases filled with oil and structure and time.

But today, the little sketches and words and photos, were like bits of me from before. Not so much the finished works - though some of the pieces in panels of rocks and oceans reminded me of a time where there were lots of big shapes and landscapes and scraggly ink lines all broken up an re-assembled. I miss that kind of drawing. All messy and big.

So it was quite the accidental find this exhibition, and to be reminded that things don't always need to be small, or quick, or easy. If you are in Canberra you should pop in and have a look - it runs until April 6. Otherwise you can see the work online: http://philipwolfhagen.com
