Isn't it funny how I just mentioned George Baldessin the other day? And now here is an exhibition in Canberra town. YOU MUST GO! It's on until 12 September at Drill Hall Gallery right near ANU. It's free so there are no excuses.
Most people who have been to the National Gallery in Canberra would have seen Baldessin's work without even knowing (those giant pears out the front are his). For a printmaker though, Baldessin is all about the etching. The texture and depth is amazing and the lines in his wonderful figures. Makes me want to draw again.
You might not like his work, but you should see it because it is interesting, it celebrates the medium of printmaking and his work holds an important place in Australian art history that you might never be able to see like this again.
